Which videos can be converted?
Almost all of them. The converter is built on FFmpeg, which reads more than 300 formats: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WEBM, WMV, FLV, 3GP, MPEG, MPG, TS, MTS/M2TS (AVCHD), VOB, OGV, ASF, M4V and more. Audio files (MP3, M4A, AAC, WMA, OGG, AMR, AIFF…) are accepted too, so you can also convert from one audio format to another.
The only things that cannot be converted are files without any sound track, DRM-protected videos (bought films, some streaming downloads) and files larger than 100 MB.
Why convert to FLAC?
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) keeps exactly the same sound as WAV but compresses it by 30–50 %, like a ZIP file for audio. It is the format of choice for archiving recordings and for audiophiles, and it is supported by Android, Windows, macOS, iOS (Files app), VLC and most hi-fi players. Note that FLAC cannot improve a lossy source: its value is in not losing anything more.
Tips for Video files
- If you are unsure, just try: the converter tells you immediately if a file has no audio.
- Several files at once? Drop them all, they will be converted one after another.
- Surround sound (5.1, 7.1) is mixed down to stereo automatically.
Which audio format should you pick?
| Format | Type | Size for 1 min | Best for |

| M4A | Lossy (AAC), efficient | ≈ 1.4 MB at 192 kbps | iPhone, iPad, Apple Music, Android |
| WAV | Uncompressed (PCM) | ≈ 10 MB | Audio editing, DAWs, CDs, transcription tools |
| FLAC | Lossless, compressed | ≈ 5–7 MB | Archiving, hi-fi listening, editing |
| OGG | Lossy (Vorbis), open | ≈ 1.4 MB at 192 kbps | Games, Linux, open-source projects |

Video to FLAC: frequently asked questions
Is the Video to FLAC converter free?
Yes. Videos-to-MP3 is completely free: no subscription, no watermark, no limit on the length of the audio. The only limits are 100 MB per file and a fair-use cap of 60 conversions per hour.
Will the FLAC file lose quality?
The audio is taken directly from the original track. With a high bitrate (or a lossless format such as WAV or FLAC) the difference is inaudible. A converter can never add quality that was not in the source, so a low-quality video will give a low-quality audio file.
Can I convert Video to FLAC on my phone?
Yes. The converter runs in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet and Edge. On iPhone, tap “Choose files”, pick the video from Photos or Files, then save the result with the download button.
Are my files kept on your server?
No. Each file is processed in a private temporary folder and deleted as soon as the FLAC file has been sent back to you. Nothing is published or shared.
What if my Video file is bigger than 100 MB?
Use the trim options of your phone’s video editor or a free tool such as VLC or HandBrake to cut it into parts, or extract the audio locally with FFmpeg (see our FFmpeg guide).
